Friend Makin’ Mondays: A Little About Me

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Kenlie has had some great questions lately, but I’ve been short on time!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: http://www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

A Little About Me

1. Have you ever experienced love at first sight?  Sort of. I met my husband online so I had already seen his pictures, but when I saw him in person waiting outside of the pub where we were meeting for our first date I gasped and said to myself, “That’s him. That’s the one.” And I was actually right!

2. What channel is your TV on most? I don’t currently own a TV, but I’m pretty sure it would either be ABC (I love Revenge, Nashville, Scandal) or Bravo (I’m a sucker for trashy “reality” shows).

3. Share one quality that you’re proud to have.  I’m a very open-minded, curious person which leads to a lot of great discussions.

4.  Describe your idea of a great evening.  It depends on the time of year, but right now I’m dreaming of watching the sunset over the ocean with a drink in my hand, good conversations and lots of flirtation.

5. If your friends were asked to describe you in three words, which words would they choose?  Hmm. I hope they’d say: fun, caring, and smart.

6. What is your favorite holiday? I like all the summer barbecue holidays the best: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day.

7. If you could change one thing that would make your life easier instantly, what would it be?  I would be independently wealthy so I wouldn’t have to have a 9-5 job. It really gets in the way of how I’d like to spend my time. 😉

8. What is one healthy food that you crave? Pretty much any kind of berry or melon.

9. Do you wear socks when you sleep?  Never. I hate having socks on my feet. As soon as I walk in the house the shoes and socks (or tights) come off!

10. Share at least three things for which you are thankful. My husband, my health, and my family and friends.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments.  Happy Monday!

Friend Makin’ Monday: Childhood Flashbacks

I can’t believe its April 1st! I guess I need to come up with April goals.

In the meantime, it’s also Friend Makin’ Monday!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. Childhood Flashbacks

1. Did you have a set bedtime as a child?  If so, what was it? I think I did up until 6th or 7th grade. It was probably 8 or 9 depending on my age. Once I hit middle school my bedtime was up to me, but I loved my sleep so it wasn’t an issue.

2. Were you taught to be a member of the “Clean Plate Club?” Did it have affect your eating habits as an adult?  Not really. I remember giving my dad any leftovers to eat. We used to call him the “garbage man” because his response to any leftover food was “Well, I’d hate to see it go to waste!” Lucky for him, he had a great metabolism!

3. Share one thing that you were not allowed to do as a child. I remember not being able to ride my bike in the street or to walk across a main street by my house.

4. What is the cheapest gas price you can remember?  I remember it being about $.87 when I first started driving. Those were the days!

5. What was your favorite thing on the playground?  I loved the swings, the see-saw, and the merry-go-round. So much fun!

6. Share one thing that your parents always made you do that you didn’t like doing.  I hated cleaning my room and doing the dishes. Funnily enough, I still hate doing the dishes. My husband hates having dirty dishes in the sink so when we first moved in together he would end up doing my dishes even if he hadn’t dirtied anything. I felt bad, so now I (almost) always wash my dishes right away.

7. Do you remember your first kiss?  If so, share the details!  I was 14 or 15. I was asked to dance by this guy who was one of the class clowns, but also kind of a bully. I was totally shocked when he leaned in a kissed me! I had thought he didn’t even like me. Nothing happened after that, though.

8. Did you prefer to play inside or outside? I did both. Outside I would ride my bike, roller skate, play on our swing set, or swim in our pool. Inside I read, watched TV, or played Barbies. My favorite activities were definitely reading or playing Barbies.

9. What was your favorite TV show growing up?  Oh, there were so many, but I think I liked more adult shows the best: Cheers, Moonlighting, LA Law, and Mad About You. I was kind of weird. 😉

10. Share one awesome childhood memory.  All of our weeks spent at either the Jersey shore or the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Beach vacations with one sibling, four cousins, and four friends’ kids were so awesome!

Bonus: Share a picture of yourself as a child. Showing my love of books from an early age And my favorite mode of transportation – my Powder Puff Big Wheel! That street behind me is the one I wasn’t allowed to cross.

Friend Makin’ Monday: Pondering Personal Thoughts

Today is the first of my two day vacation and let me tell you, it’s been awesome. I didn’t change out of my pajamas until after noon; the Laundromat was practically empty, and it’s been blissfully quiet in my apartment building.

Later today I’m going to make a batch of vegetarian navy bean soup and take a Zumba class, but before all that excitement begins, it’s time to participate in Friend Makin’ Monday!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. Pondering Personal Thoughts

1. How old would you feel if you didn’t know how old you are? Definitely late 20’s or very early 30’s. It always takes me a few minutes to remember how old I am. I’ve always been a “late bloomer” in pretty much every area of my life, so I always feel younger than I actually am.

2. Are you the kind of friend you’d want to have as a friend?  Yes, I think so. I’m sure I’ve made some mistakes in the past, but for the most part I feel like I’m a good friend to those I’m closest to.

3. Look back at the last year.  When did you feel most excited about something in your life?  This entire past year was an adventure because it was my first year of marriage. Pretty much every day was (and still is) exciting. It’s been an amazing journey so far.

4. Have you ever been with someone and not spoken a word, only to walk away thinking that was the best conversation ever?  Yes! Well, I probably spoke at least a few words, but yes.

5. If you won 100 million dollars Monday, would you continue doing whatever you usually do on Tuesdays?  Definitely not! I would hand in my resignation so fast! I like my job a lot, but I love my free time better. A non-traditional job would make me much happier. With that kind of money I could focus on projects that really moved me. I would also help my husband start his dream business immediately.

6. What would you do differently if you knew no one would judge you?  I would take up ballet again. I loved dancing and performing so much. I definitely miss it sometimes.

7. Share something you do differently than most people. I almost always decide whether or not I like a song based on the lyrics rather than the music. Nine times out of ten the meaning is more important to me than the melody. (Except for my workout and running tunes. They are all about the beat!)

8. What’s one thing that you really want to do that you’ve never done?  I would love to see the Northern Lights in person.

9. If you had to move out of state right now, where would you move?  My husband and I are actively dreaming of relocating to somewhere warmer and less expensive. Our ever-expanding list currently includes: North Carolina, Florida, Texas, or California.

10.  What is the one thing that you’d like to change most about the world?  I think it’s a tie between ending poverty and stopping the abuse of women and children.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments!  Have a happy Monday, friends!

Friend Makin’ Monday: Food Questions

Well, this switch to Daylight Saving Time really threw me for a loop. I tossed and turned half the night! With any luck, we’ll all be adjusted to the time change by Wednesday. Why do we even do this anymore?

Onto a more fun note, it’s Friend Makin’ Monday time!

Food Questions

  1. What did you eat for dinner last night? Hoisin glazed baked salmon and roasted brussell sprouts and sweet potatoes.
  2. If you could make one food calorie-free for the next year, what would you choose? This one is tough, but I’m going with cheeseburgers!
  3.  How often do you go to the grocery store? Once a week for the big haul and then sometimes once during the week for missing items, fresh produce, etc.
  4. Do you make a list before buying groceries? Definitely. I made a meal plan and then a list for what I’ll need that week.
  5.  List three things that can always be found in your kitchen. Olive oil, Greek yogurt, and coffee.
  6.  How often do you clean out your fridge? At least once every two weeks.
  7.  Do you ever use a slow cooker? If so, will you share a recipe? I used to one a few years ago, but I didn’t use it very often so I got rid of it in my last move.
  8. How often do you try new recipes? Probably two or three a month. I especially like trying things from Cooking Light.
  9. What is the most delicious meal(s) you make? I really like my baked salmon, but my favorite dish is this great mushroom risotto from Cooking Light. So delicious and comforting!
  10.  Share at least one thing that is currently in your kitchen even though you don’t like it.  Believe it or not, I can’t think of anything!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Friend Makin’ Monday: Q &A

It’s time for Friend Makin’ Monday again! I just realized I completely dropped the ball on this last week. Oops!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Questions and Answers

1. Did you watch the Oscars? If so, who did you enjoy seeing most?  I didn’t. I haven’t owned a TV for about two years now (I watch shows and movies on my computer after the fact). I did enjoy looking at all the photos and reading the recaps this morning, though. Almost everyone looked amazing. The dresses! The glamour! Swoon!

2. Do you drink meal replacement shakes, smoothies, etc?  I used to drink protein shakes made with protein powder, almond milk, and Greek yogurt following my workouts. I felt that they really helped reducing the time needed for muscle recovery and they helped keep me full so I ate less. The only reason I stopped was because I ran out of powder! It is definitely something I plan on starting up again.

3. Share one thing you have done to help someone in the last week?  My husband has been fighting a sinus problem the past few days and the medicine he had wasn’t working so I ran out to our drugstore to get him something stronger. Unfortunately, the pharmacy counter was closed so I had to go back in the morning and try again. Does that count? 🙂

4. What is the tastiest thing you ate last week?  I baked a delicious salmon dish marinated in hoisin and low-sodium soy sauce. It’s a keeper!

5. Think of one fun thing that you could do this week without spending any money to do it.  Curl up on the couch and watch a movie with my husband. So simple and so satisfying.

6. Share one place that you’ve been to and would like to visit again.  I’d like to see Montreal again. I went in March a few years back for a conference and I would love to visit when the weather is actually warm.

7. Do you prefer Facebook or Twitter?  I like them both, but Facebook is my preferred way to waste time.

8. What is your favorite vegetable?  This is a tough one. I really love so many vegetables. Right now, I’d say brussel sprouts, but I could list many, many more.

9. Share a goal that you have for the month of March.  I want to run a 12 minute mile by the end of the month.

10. Share a quote that inspires you.

This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor…Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Now it’s your turn. Happy Monday!
